What is Sleep Deprivation?

Sleep deprivation can be defined as an acute or chronic lack of sleep. Lose enough sleep, and you begin to function less effectively as a human being. Lose even more sleep, and your health deteriorates – sometimes seriously.

Different people require different amounts of sleep. Children require more than young adults who in turn require more than seniors. But this is only a generality as even people within the same age group and the same gender often require different amounts of sleep to stay well-rested and healthy.

The bottom line is that in today’s society, there are lots of different ways in which people can suffer from sleep deprivation. And in every case there is a mental and physical price to pay.

Find out more about sleep deprivation by reading my article on Hubpages “The Effects of Sleep Deprivation.”

Chemical and Laser Skin Resurfacing

Have you been considering cosmetic surgery to remove some of those lines and wrinkles you’ve been seeing in the mirror? Have you wondered if there are other, gentler, less invasive alternatives to surgery? Well, there are – chemical and laser skin resurfacing.

While resurfacing the skin with either a chemical or laser will not tighten up the skin the way a surgical face lift will, the treatment can still do wonders for those aging lines and spots we all want to lose.

It’s important though to keep in mind that using lasers or chemical peels is still serious business and you should do your homework before undergoing any such treatment.

You can start by learning more specifics about chemical and laser treatments by reading a great article on Hubpages “ Skin Resurfacing; Chemical or Laser?” The author, Jayne Lancer, gives you some great insight into what works and what doesn’t.

You can also find a great selection of laser and chemical skin care products on Amazon.com. Amazon has a many different laser and chemical products in several different price ranges - and they have great shipping options too.

Sleeping Without Sleep Aids

Many people have trouble falling and even staying asleep. The root causes can be varied - anything from too much stress to even an underlying medical condition. But in any case the lack of a good night's sleep can be very costly.

Sleep deprivation causes problems with concentration and cognition. It makes us more irritable. And it can ultimately lead to significant health problems if it goes on for a long period of time.

Sleep aids (in particular sleeping pills) have become a very popular treatment for sleeping problems. Unforntuately they still come with certain side effects and don't really get at the true cause or causes of the sleep problem. But sometimes changing your pre-sleep habits can. Sometimes a few simple behavioral changes can make for a dramatic improvement in the quality of your sleep.

Find out more about sleeping without sleep aids by reading my article on Hubpages “How to Sleep Without Sleep Aids.”

Okay, Just What is Massage Therapy Anyway?

Massage is a form of physical therapy meant to relieve pain and promote relaxation. The therapy is applied directly to the body through some form of pressure or friction – usually with the hands of fingers. And the individual targets of the therapy are the muscles, tendons, and ligaments of the body.

Massage therapy has been around since ancient times and, like all therapeutic techniques, massage has evolved and grown. Today dozens of different methods of massage exist in the world. Practitioners are found in every culture and every country on the planet.

Find out more, and I mean a lot more about massage therapies of all kinds, by reading a great article on Hubpages “What is Massage Therapy.” The author, “Sandyspider,” has done a comprehensive job pulling a lot of information together – it’s an informative read.

Does The Philips Wake Up Light Work?

Simply stated, light has positive effects on health. For instance, acne can be treated and improved with light therapy and seasonal affective disorder (AKA “SAD”) can as well. And now light therapy is making inroads into sleeping cycles too.
That’s where the Philips Wake-Up Light comes in. It’s a device that simulates the approach of dawn and therefore replaces your traditional alarm clock. It’s a different way to wake up in the morning.

The idea behind it is that waking up to gradual increases of light is much more natural and therefore better for your system than some old blaring alarm clock or clock radio. And that’s pretty hard to argue with for those of us who’ve been abruptly snapped out of a deep sleep by a penetrating beep of an alarm. This dawn simulator may change the way you feel about waking up.

Find out more about the Philips Wake Up Light and how it can wake you up feeling more refreshed and rested by reading my article on Hubpages “The Philips Wake Up Light."

Omnilux Light Therapy

People have long suspected that sunlight has certain healing powers. Science began documenting this in the 1980’s when experiments proved that certain wavelengths of light had positive effects on skin. Now there are a number of medicinal light therapies in use for various physical conditions and problems.

Phototherapy, as it’s sometimes called, is being used to treat skin conditions (acne), emotional conditions (mood) and even certain sleep conditions. Now light therapy is branching out. It’s worked its way into the world of cosmetics and especially skin rejuvenation.

Skin rejuvenation methodology attempts to slow down or reverse the effects of aging. And that’s what Omnilux light therapy is designed to do. It does this by working effectively on the collagen creation mechanisms in your skin.
