What is Sleep Deprivation?

Sleep deprivation can be defined as an acute or chronic lack of sleep. Lose enough sleep, and you begin to function less effectively as a human being. Lose even more sleep, and your health deteriorates – sometimes seriously.

Different people require different amounts of sleep. Children require more than young adults who in turn require more than seniors. But this is only a generality as even people within the same age group and the same gender often require different amounts of sleep to stay well-rested and healthy.

The bottom line is that in today’s society, there are lots of different ways in which people can suffer from sleep deprivation. And in every case there is a mental and physical price to pay.

Find out more about sleep deprivation by reading my article on Hubpages “The Effects of Sleep Deprivation.”

Chemical and Laser Skin Resurfacing

Have you been considering cosmetic surgery to remove some of those lines and wrinkles you’ve been seeing in the mirror? Have you wondered if there are other, gentler, less invasive alternatives to surgery? Well, there are – chemical and laser skin resurfacing.

While resurfacing the skin with either a chemical or laser will not tighten up the skin the way a surgical face lift will, the treatment can still do wonders for those aging lines and spots we all want to lose.

It’s important though to keep in mind that using lasers or chemical peels is still serious business and you should do your homework before undergoing any such treatment.

You can start by learning more specifics about chemical and laser treatments by reading a great article on Hubpages “ Skin Resurfacing; Chemical or Laser?” The author, Jayne Lancer, gives you some great insight into what works and what doesn’t.

You can also find a great selection of laser and chemical skin care products on Amazon.com. Amazon has a many different laser and chemical products in several different price ranges - and they have great shipping options too.

Sleeping Without Sleep Aids

Many people have trouble falling and even staying asleep. The root causes can be varied - anything from too much stress to even an underlying medical condition. But in any case the lack of a good night's sleep can be very costly.

Sleep deprivation causes problems with concentration and cognition. It makes us more irritable. And it can ultimately lead to significant health problems if it goes on for a long period of time.

Sleep aids (in particular sleeping pills) have become a very popular treatment for sleeping problems. Unforntuately they still come with certain side effects and don't really get at the true cause or causes of the sleep problem. But sometimes changing your pre-sleep habits can. Sometimes a few simple behavioral changes can make for a dramatic improvement in the quality of your sleep.

Find out more about sleeping without sleep aids by reading my article on Hubpages “How to Sleep Without Sleep Aids.”

Okay, Just What is Massage Therapy Anyway?

Massage is a form of physical therapy meant to relieve pain and promote relaxation. The therapy is applied directly to the body through some form of pressure or friction – usually with the hands of fingers. And the individual targets of the therapy are the muscles, tendons, and ligaments of the body.

Massage therapy has been around since ancient times and, like all therapeutic techniques, massage has evolved and grown. Today dozens of different methods of massage exist in the world. Practitioners are found in every culture and every country on the planet.

Does The Philips Wake Up Light Work?

Simply stated, light has positive effects on health. For instance, acne can be treated and improved with light therapy and seasonal affective disorder (AKA “SAD”) can as well. And now light therapy is making inroads into sleeping cycles too.
That’s where the Philips Wake-Up Light comes in. It’s a device that simulates the approach of dawn and therefore replaces your traditional alarm clock. It’s a different way to wake up in the morning.

The idea behind it is that waking up to gradual increases of light is much more natural and therefore better for your system than some old blaring alarm clock or clock radio. And that’s pretty hard to argue with for those of us who’ve been abruptly snapped out of a deep sleep by a penetrating beep of an alarm. This dawn simulator may change the way you feel about waking up.

Find out more about the Philips Wake Up Light and how it can wake you up feeling more refreshed and rested by reading my article on Hubpages “The Philips Wake Up Light."

Omnilux Light Therapy

People have long suspected that sunlight has certain healing powers. Science began documenting this in the 1980’s when experiments proved that certain wavelengths of light had positive effects on skin. Now there are a number of medicinal light therapies in use for various physical conditions and problems.

Phototherapy, as it’s sometimes called, is being used to treat skin conditions (acne), emotional conditions (mood) and even certain sleep conditions. Now light therapy is branching out. It’s worked its way into the world of cosmetics and especially skin rejuvenation.

Skin rejuvenation methodology attempts to slow down or reverse the effects of aging. And that’s what Omnilux light therapy is designed to do. It does this by working effectively on the collagen creation mechanisms in your skin.

Find out more about Omnilux light therapy and how it can make your skin look younger by reading my article on Hubpages “About Omnilux Light Therapy.”

Who Needs a Wireless IP Camera?

When I was a kid, no one worried about their homes – at least not from a surveillance standpoint. Neighbors were all the home security you needed. In fact, it wasn’t uncommon for a neighbor or two to have an extra set of your house keys just in case they needed to take care of something for you.

Today, we rely on electronic surveillance more and more to keep our homes secure. And since so many of us are on the go, we need to have access to our systems from wherever we are. That’s where the wireless IP camera comes in.

A wireless IP network camera can take advantage of the Internet to broadcast streaming video. That means we can view that video from anywhere we can receive an Internet connection. It’s all so very cool.

Find out more about wireless IP cameras and how they can help protect your home by reading my article on Hubpages “The Wireless IP Camera.”

You can also find a great selection of wireless IP cameras on Amazon.com.Amazon has cameras available in several different price ranges with several different feature sets - and they have great shipping options too.

Sleep Apnea and CPAP Supplies

Medicine has been treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) for several years now. As the years have rolled by, medication and equipment have evolved to become more and more effective. And there have been several companies that have led the way with the kinds of OSA equipment and supplies that give apnea patients a better chance at a good night’s sleep.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines have progressed from being noisy and bulky to being quiet and sleek. Masks have been designed in many different shapes to give apnea sufferers more choice and a better fit. Even the hoses that connect the masks with the machines are more resilient and flexible than before. All of this makes it easier to treat sleep apnea effectively.

Find out more about sleep apnea and CPAP treatment and how it can help you get your sleep back by reading my article on Hubpages “Sleep Apnea and CPAP Supplies.”

You can also find a great selection of CPAP supplies on Amazon.com.Amazon has everything from masks to hoses, to filters and beyond. – and they have great shipping options too.

The Acne Light Therapy Story

In order to treat your acne, you often needed to resort to chemical gels and creams or prescription drugs. These treatments could be successful but they required diligence and time. But what if there was a treatment that could be applied twice a week, didn’t require any drugs or creams, and didn’t leave your skin even the least bit sensitive? You’d jump at it right?

Well, acne light therapy is just that kind of treatment. Specific wavelengths of light reach deep into the skin to root out and kill the acne bacterium P. acnes. When the bacterium’s destroyed, acne doesn’t surface.

Find out more about acne light therapy and how it can help you win your personal battle against acne by reading my article on Hubpages “Acne Light Therapy.”

The Importance of CPAP Masks

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) sufferers have been receiving relief from their apnea since the 1980’s with CPAP therapy. CPAP stands for “Continuous Positive Airway Pressure” and it’s one of the most effective therapies used today. A small machine, a flexible hose, and a CPAP mask are all an apnea suffer needs to receive the therapy and thereby get a solid night’s sleep.

It’s important to get the right equipment and it’s extremely important to get the right CPAP mask. The mask is the most personal item in the CPAP treatment arsenal.  If it’s uncomfortable you won’t wear it and if it doesn’t fit right, the therapy won’t work.

Find out more about CPAP therapy and especially about CPAP masks by reading my article on Hubpages “Respironics CPAP Masks.”

You can also find a great selection of CPAP masks on Amazon.com.Amazon has all major mask types and accessories in several different price ranges – and they have great shipping options too.

Snoring Solution Odyssey

If you’re a snorer, then two things are probably happening in your life right now. Number one, you’re probably waking up most mornings feeling tired and you’re maybe even dragging that same feeling along with you all day. Number two, you’re probably causing your sleep partner some agony as you’re probably waking him or her up every night with your bombastic breathing.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be that way. You can find a snoring solution that works for both you and your significant other. It might take some experimentation and a little time, but you can do it.

Credit Cards and College Students

Have you ever wondered why so many college students have so many credit cards? Most don’t have any real credit history to speak of and very few have the kinds of jobs that would indicate they could make a credit card payment. What’s the deal?

Well, it turns out that for years now college students have been the not-so-secret target of banks and credit card companies because of their vast long-term potential. They represent enormous profit for banks. Maybe that’s why they’ve been so aggressively marketed.

Find out more about the marketing tactics banks use to rope in college students by reading my article on Hubpages:  “The College Credit Card Two-Step.”

Credit Card Interest Rates from the Beginning

The idea of credit has been around for a while now – over 200 years actually. But credit cards are a relatively new idea. The first ones began appearing in the 1940’s and actually charged no interest (imagine that?).

It wasn’t until the 1950’s that actual revolving balances and interest rates were born.  Ten years after that the credit card wars began for real. It’s all been down-hill from there.

Find out more about credit card interest, how it was born and how it’s evolved by reading my article on Hubpages:  “A Brief History of Credit Card Interest Rates.”

Prepaid Debit Cards are Coming

Have you been happy with your credit card? Or does it seem like your bank has been grinding away at you with a never-ending series of penalty charges, interest hikes, and hidden fees? Maybe you feel more like a number than a customer.

Well, there’s a way you can fight back a bit and regain some of the power over your own money – You can switch over to a prepaid debit card.

Prepaid debit cards are gaining in popularity every day. They work just like credit cards but don’t have any of the hidden charges. Plus you can’t accidentally overspend with a prepaid card.

Find out more about prepaid debit cards and why they work just like cash by reading my article on Hubpages: “Prepaid Debit Cards – The New Cash.”
